Ame-furi-kozō
雨降り小僧 (あめふりこぞう)
Little Rainfall Boy
other names:

Sometimes on rainy evenings, this innocuous weather spirit can be seen running about and
splashing playfully in the puddles. It appears as a strange child, carrying a paper lantern and
wearing a peculiar hat fashioned from the husk of an old umbrella. The ame-furi-kozō is said
to be in service of Ushi, a Chinese god of precipitation, and thus has the power to make
the rain fall.1
