Jubokko
樹木子 (じゅぼっこ)
Arborous Child

A monstrous tree appearing in cartoonist Mizuki Shigeru's yōkai encyclopedias. Mizuki describes it as growing in the remains of a battlefield where many people died. The tree develops a taste for blood and so sucks it out of any unsuspecting person it manages to snatch up.

Yōkai researchers Kyōgoku Natsuhiko, Tada Katsumi, and Murakami Kenji report, however, that they can find no trace of this vampiric plant in folklore records, old literature, or really any source that predates Mizuki. They suspect it is an invention of his, but Mizuki is apparently secretive about his sources.
