Found in Tokushima prefecture, this monster resembles an old man, but it first appears in the form of a baby, crying in remote mountain recesses where no babies ought to be found. When a kind-hearted traveler picks this illusory child up to comfort it, the konaki-jijī reverts to its true form, increasing its weight to 50 and then 100 kan (about 188 and 376 kilograms) and crushing the life out of the unfortunate person.
